1900 (Mar) Kaduna Survey Expedition soldier's letter endorsed 'No Stamps Obtainable at Yelwa' with h/s "1" &, on rev., oval LOKJA/31 MAR 1900/ POST OFFICE. Corner missing. The Expedition comprised just 300 W.A.F.F. commanded by Col Morland, was to find a site for a Government HQ in the Kaduna/Guara/Okwa area. It was out from Feb - May & fought several engagements with large parties of slave traders (notably at Lima).
